Four Mile Historic Park is a Denver park which is operated by
a nonprofit organization, Four Mile Historic Park, Inc. This
12 acre rural site is home to Denver's Oldest house, Four Mile
House, a Denver Landmark that is also listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. Built in 1859, Four Mile House
once
served as a stage stop, wayside inn, and tavern for travelers
on the Cherokee Trail on their way to Denver City.
Four Mile Historic Park offers a wide range of programs that
include: school/youth programs, heritage and special events,
guided museum and grounds tours, summer day camp, children's
birthday parties, and site rentals for special occasions. The
park is dedicated to presenting programs that celebrate the
diversity of the men, women, and children who lived and worked
in the west.
On a year-round basis, the park is alive with
school field trips, where young pioneers spend their days panning
for gold, cooking over an open fire, and engaging in activities
that their counterparts of 150 years ago enjoyed. Educational
programs continue throughout the summer, with a summer camp
program that gives campers a hands-on taste of early Colorado.
Our senior field trips extend another version of early Colorado
to the community’s retirees, with popular Chuck Wagon Lunch
programs offering campfire victuals, music, tours and stories
to entertain and educate.
The grounds at Four Mile Historic Park are available for family
and corporate rentals, with a number of outdoor spaces to accommodate
a variety of party groups. The addition of the Grant Family Education
Center and its impressive Grant Hall banquet facility, with a
panoramic view of the park grounds, offer an indoor great room
and a conference room for a variety of rental needs.
Our volunteers are the backbone of our programs, providing docents
and interpreters for events and rentals, garden and grounds keepers,
and gift shop and clerical assistance. Join our volunteer family
and be a part of preserving Colorado’s past while enjoying
a fulfilling present!
